DOG DAYS OF SUMMER 2011
On July 9, 2011, the RGV Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic and the City of McAllen Parks and Recreation Department hosted the Dog Days of Summer Day at the Park at McAllen's dog park located at 4th and Tamarack. The objective of the event was intended to increase awareness among pet owners (particularly dog owners) as to the variety of pet orienteded businesses in the area and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals. All local rescue organizations and the Palm Valley Animal Center were invited to attend and bring their adoptable animals out to our event. HEB located at Pecan and Trenton, in McAllen, Texas; Bloomingtails, a Pet Boutique; and Pampered Pooch Pasteries were among the vendors participating in our event. Petco also participated by donating "pet goodie bags" for the first 30 entrants. The Oasis Animal Sanctuary, Recycled Rovers and Big Dogs & Huge Paws were amoung the rescues that attended with their adoptable dogs. Palm Valley Animal Center also attended with their adoption vehicle.
Five dog contest were also conducted during the event, Cutest Puppy Contest, Doggy and Me Look-a-Like Contest, Best Costume Contest, Large Dog Obstacle Course, and Small Dog Obstacle Course. Winners were awarded gift baskets consisting of a variety of pet items, pet treats and t-shirts for pet parents. We hope that next years event will be bigger and better! We hope to see everyone out at next years event!
